Nike Women's Marathon

I saw this on Pinterest.  After I run the Chicago Marathon, I'm so going to run the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco.   When you finish running, you get a Tiffany necklace given to you by firefighter in a tux.

If that doesn't motivate you to run a marathon, nothing will.

Goodbye Love Handles

Do you think this will work?  I need to work out my oblique muscles.   The rest of my body is slimming down, but my love handles are still in tact.  I'm going to try it this morning.  Hopefully, I'll like it.

I saw the 5-4-3-2-1 Workout on Pinterest.  It only takes 15 minutes for a beginner.  It looks easy, but I was sweating by the time I was finished.  I would recommend it for busy days when you just don't have time for the gym.

Choosng running shoes

This pin gives advice about running shoes.  I need this because I have high aches and my new running shoes aren't giving my feet the support they need.  This is so true.  I have high aches and my feet roll out.  I will definitely relace my shoes like it tells me to.  Hopefully, that will help.

Map My Run

I was looking for an app to figure out how far I am running. After searching Pinterest, I found Map My Run. I have used it twice and I love it. I found out that my running trail at my park was .10 mile further than I thought it was. That means I've been running further and faster than I thought!

I think that the GPS is pretty accurate. My first time using it, I tested it against a .25 mile track and it was right.

I like that the app speaks to you at the end of every mile to tell you the distance, time, and pace. It's great that I don't have to stop and look every so often.

My only complaint is that when you pause and resume your workout, it takes it awhile to readjust to your pace. I paused it once and when I resumed it said I was running at 1 mile per hour for about a minute into the workout. Finally, my speed started going up, but it messed with my average pace.

Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the app. I'm using it to keep track of my marathon training.

Run from Zombies!

This pin is about a running app tht turns your progress into a zombie survival narrative. I can totally see myself running into something because I was too busy reading this app while I am running. It's a hazard and I need this app!

Wednesday Weigh In on Thursday

I know that today is not Wednesday, but I was too lazy to type yesterday.  Here's my Thursday Weigh In. 

I didn't weigh myself this week. I've been doing so good with my running and stuff that I didn't want to ruin my progress with a bad weigh in.  I've only been training for the marathon for a week and I didn't want to be deterred by the number on the scale.

I don't know if I will weigh myself until October.  I think I want to focus on running and getting better at it without worrying about my weight.

Update!


This week I didn’t something that I didn’t think I would do.  I signed up for the Chicago Marathon.  It will be good for me.  I’ve been running casually for a couple of months now.  I’m slowly getting better and having a training plan will make me work harder towards my goal.  I’m not trying to win the marathon; I just want to finish it.  I want to prove to myself that I can do this. 

I’m no stranger to marathon training.  Three years ago, I was training for a marathon in Las Vegas.  A month before the race, I stress fractured my foot.  I couldn’t run for a while.  Needless to say, I didn’t run that race.  By the time my foot had healed, I was injured in a car accident and couldn’t move without severe pain for six months.  That was how I got fat. 

Now, three years later, I am out of shape.  I have been thinking about running a marathon for years and I’m finally going to do it.  I’m taking my training slow so I don’t push too hard and stress fracture my foot again.  I’m nervous, but excited.  I know that I can do it. 

This has motivated me.  I wish I was running right now instead of sitting here at work, but what can I do?  I need money to pay for my running shoes. 

I have my workouts (both running and cross training) already figured out.

Salad in a Jar

I see salad in a jar pins all the time on Pinterest. This pin shows how to make them in four simple steps.

Step 1: Dressing
Step 2: Veggies
Step 3: Meat and cheese
Step 4: Lettuce

According to the pin, the salads are good for 4-7 days after you make them. Mine never last that long because I eat them before that. It's a great way to always have healthy food ready to eat.

Wednesday Weigh In

Today I weighed in. After weeks of weight gain, the flu, and medicine, I have finally lost weight.  I lost an entire pound.  It isn't much, but it's a start. 

I have been running and using resistance bands. I have been doing burpees (which suck, but are a good work out) a lot.

Wednesday Weigh In

Another week has passed by and I still weigh the some.  This is starting to get repetitive.  I have worked out so much this week that my muscles are extremely sore.  You would think that I would see a difference on the scale, but I'm not.  I hae noticed that my double chin is smaller, but that isn't much of a difference. 

In other news, I have started running again.  I had forgotten how much I love it.  My body feels so good after a run.  I'm not running fast or far.  I run a little over a mile (around my block twice).  I'm trying to do it 3-4 times a week, but we've had a lot of snow and ice.  I don't want to hurt myself running on ice. 

Are there any exercises that are good substitutes for running when I can't run outside?

Check it out.  The moves seem pretty easy and quick to do.  I tried them this morning and it is a good work out.  I don't normally use resistance bands, so it was a good way to mix up my daily workout.

Wednesday Weigh In

Today I learned that I gained one pound.  It's not that bad.  Last week I had the flu, so I knew that my weight loss was from not eating and, thus, only temporary. 

It was the worse flu of my life.  I still feel queasy once in a while.

Since my body is still getting back to normal, I hope that next week I will start losing weight again.  The weather has been nice, so I've started running again.  My muscles are sore, but I think I can stick with it.

Wednesday Weigh In

Today I weighed in and it said that I have lost several pounds.  Of course, I also have the flu, so I don't think that the weight loss is real.  I haven't exercised in days and can't keep food down, but I feel really skinny.  My waist looks like I have lost an inch or two.  Naturally, I'm sure all of this is just temporary, but hopefully it will motivate me to lose more weight when I feel better.

Wednesday Weigh In

My weigh in was messed up this morning.  I had forgotten that it was Wednesday, so I drank a lot of coffee and ate breakfast before I remembered that I had to weigh in.  In addition to that, I have a UTI and antibiotics always make me retain water. 

Needless to say, that my weight gain didn't surprise me.  Today, it said that I gained one and a half pounds since last week.  However, I weighed myself yesterday morning and it said that I lost a pound since last week. 

So, my actual weight is up in the air.  Hopefully, next week I will remember and get an actual weight. 

I'm just going to write that I had the same weight as last week.  It seems to be the average between yesterday's weight and today's.

Turbo Fire Day 1

My friend is losing weight like crazy.  I'm so jealous, so I asked her to write down what she is doing.  She gave me a hug list.  It was mostly different types of crunchs, but at the top of that list was Turbo Fire - a collection of dvds.  I don't usually like dvd workouts since they get repetitive, but I'm going to give it a try.  My friend borrowed me one of her sets (She has two sets of Turbo Fire?!?  Weird, I know). 

So, today I did my first workout and I liked it.  It was intense, but I didn't feel exhausted afterwards.  I think I can do this for a while. 

My friend said that she lost 14 pound in the first two weeks.  I would love to have those kinds of results. 

We will see.

Wednesday Weigh In


Today I weighed in and I was half a pound less than last week!  It’s a small victory, but it makes me feel a little better.  Unfortunately, I have been working out (that Killer Kardio lives up to its name) so much that I can barely move, but it was that half pound.  I wish it was more, but I’ll take it. 

Hopefully, this will be a good start to lose more weight.  I guess we will know next week.

Killer Kardio

I stumbled upon this exercise routine on Pinterest.  I tried it and OMG! it killed my butt.  It's a good workout.  I was exhausted afterwards.  I like that it is fast paced and gets your heart pumping. 

I don't think that I will do it every day, but I will do it often.

Vegetable Twister

I have often wondered about using vegetables as pasta. It would be a good way to add vegetables into your diet. Spaghetti squash can be used in place of spaghetti noodles, but I often wondered about using other vegetables.

I found this pin which is a kitchen gadget that grinds vegetables into noodle shapes. I tried to find out where to order this, but it took me to a site that wasn't in English. Does anyone know where to buy this? Or is it just a prototype? I seriously want to buy this.

Wednesday Weigh In

Today is another weigh in.  I gained another pound.  I don' t know what I'm doing wrong.  I have started doing Weight Watchers and I gained one pound.  Ugh. 

I always have such bad luck with Weight Watchers, but my doctor recommended that I try it.  I'm giving it another week before I quit.  I'm counting my points closely and trying to make healthy choices, but it's just too much food.  Everything I have read is that you should try and eat your points, but I'm going to have to cut my points by about 5 because that's all I can eat.

I've been working out like usual, so I'm sure that it is my diet.

Wednesday Weigh In


It's Wednesday which means that I weighed myself today. I gained one pound.  Ugh.  I don't even know what to do at this point. 

I thought for sure that I would at least be at the same weight as last week.  I don't know what I am doing wrong. 

I think that I need a coach to tell me what to do.  You know, the kind of person who will yell at me and count my calories.  Maybe someone else will notice what I'm doing wrong.  I eat healthy and exercise regularly.  I'm at a total loss.

Workout buddy

I'm pretty excited because my best friend has agreed to join the gym with me.  I need a workout buddy.  It gets lonely when I see friends walking into the gym and I am alone.  So sad :(

But now, I can have someone to workout with!  Hopefully, she will help me stay motivated to workout.  I'm pretty competitive, so I think that it will be good for me to try and "beat" her.

Wednesday Weigh In


For the New Year, I swear that I will lose weight.  I weighed myself today.  I am still at 9 pounds lost.  I think that is pretty good since the last time I weighed myself was before Christmas.

That means I didn’t gain anything over the holidays.  It’s good since I was certain that I gained a few pounds.

It’s still not as good as if I lost weight, but I’m going to start today.  From now on, I will never weigh this much again. 

I’m sick of it.
